The locking nut, also called a lock nut, locking ecu, anti-slip nut, anti-skid nut… And true to its name, the locking nut has an anti-slip function, acting like a lock that makes the joint very difficult to disassemble.
The special feature of the locking nut lies in its threads, which are not as perfect as the threads on regular nuts.
The function/purpose of the locking nut
Locking nuts are commonly used for joints, tools, and equipment that experience high levels of vibration and rotation, which are precisely the reasons that can cause self-loosening of joints using standard bolts and nuts.
The prevention of self-loosening of bolts and nuts can also be addressed by adding a second nut (jam nut) over the turning nut.
Locking ecus always have a rubber ring insert called a self-locking rubber ring.
