Operating principle

A float is connected to tip of stainless steel tape wound around level transmitter. The float is heavier than force with which level transmitter winds up tape, so the balance is achieved when the float floats on the liquid surface. The liquid level can be measured by measuring the length of the tape pulled out at this time.

4 detection methods:

  1. SS method:

    Two wires are strung inside tank and used as guides for float. It is the most typical detection method and has good followability and is compatible with various types of liquids.
    This detection method is resistant to floating objects in liquids and adhesion of viscous liquids.
    It is often used for relatively large outdoor tanks.

  2. SG method (SD method):

    This detection method is ideal when liquid to be measured has waves, vortices, or flows.
    The float guide (breakwater tube) isolates float from waves, eddies, currents, wind, flying objects, etc. to achieve stable measurements.
    For float guide, we recommend a pipe with a smooth inner surface, such as a seamless pipe. Please install it vertically. It is often used in small tanks built into equipment or containers with a stirrer attached.

  3. S method:

    A liquid level transmitter that combines a float and a guide rope.
    Installation is easy and can be done even when liquid remains in the tank.
    It is not suitable if there is a vortex or water flow from an agitator in the tank.
    It is often used in relatively small containers.

  4. MJ method (MH method):

    This is a detection method that uses magnets to transmit position changes without directly connecting float and tape. It can isolate atmosphere inside the tank from the instrument side, making it ideal for preventing diffusion of volatile liquids and odors.
    Note that this method is not suitable if there are floating objects in liquid, as this will inhibit the friction of the float.
    It is often used for measuring fuel oil, solvents, and chemical solutions. Standard product’s wetted parts are made of SUS, but can be coated with PVC as a special option, making it compatible with corrosive liquids.
